For almost 60 years, AMA Omaha has been the leading network for local marketing professionals and continues to serve the Omaha community to advance the practice of marketing by providing a forum for discussion and on key issues impacting marketing professionals.
In an effort to give back to our community in as many ways as we can, every year we partner with a local non-profit through our AMA Omaha Cares initiative. We adopt a local charity partner for the board term and offer that organization marketing support, fundraising and more. This year, the Omaha marketing community voted Youth Emergency Services for our Cares Partner. We are so excited to work with the YES! organization and assist in elevating their 2021-2022 efforts.
Youth Emergency Services (YES) assists youth experiencing homelessness and near homelessness by providing critically-needed resources which support them in their desire to be self-sufficient. Their overall goal is to help youth in crisis get back on their feet in whatever ways they can. After meeting their immediate needs for food, shelter, clothing and safety, YES creates a support system to help these youth flourish.
Youth Emergency Services was founded in 1974 by a group of community volunteers who noticed homeless youth hanging around in Omaha’s Old Market district. At first, YES was led strictly by volunteers — they invited youth in crisis to stay in their homes. One morning, a volunteer woke to her kitchen cabinets being painted green, and the volunteers decided it was time to invest in a home, which became known as the YES House.
- The YES House (known today as the Emergency Shelter) has been serving youth in crisis for more than 45 years.
- YES added its Street Outreach Program in 1999.
- YES launched its Transitional Living Program (TLP) and Maternity Home in 2008.
- YES started its Rapid Rehousing program in 2019.
With its incredible mission and long-standing history, AMA Omaha could not be more excited or proud to be working alongside the Youth Emergency Services team this year.
